This DIY will cost a fraction of the price of some of the options out there and gives you the choice of hundreds of styles of ribbon for the side! Additionally, you can transfer the steps of this tutorial to any other clothing piece you wish.
The materials needed:
- Jeans - I use high-waisted black jeans from Missguided - a near-perfect dupe for the Topshop Joni Jeans. Find them here. I got them with a discount code making them just £12!
- Woven Ribbon - it's vital that the ribbon is woven to mimic the thicker fabric of jeans. Shop the ones I used here. I purchased 4m of this.
- Fabric Glue - I highly recommend these.
- Needle and the appropriate coloured thread - this little set was very useful.
- Scissors
Instructions:
- Measure the length of the jeans with the ribbon and cut as needed. I recommend cutting a little longer than necessary initially.
- Next, spread fabric glue on the seam of the jeans (at the side of course)
- Press the cut piece of ribbon gently, but firmly, onto the glued area.
- Wait several minutes to dry
- Using an appropriate coloured thread (one that matches your ribbon) begin to sew along the edge. Although the fabric glue can be used alone, this ensures that your ribbon stays firmly in place.
Overall, I'm quite impressed with the outcome of these! Let me know what you think and if you'll be trying them out for yourself. If I were to make more of these side stripe clothing using new skirts/jeans would you be open to buying them on depop? Let me know!
